Who is a Good Leader?

As we go out to cast our votes again, let us examine what Modiji did in his ten years as the Prime Minister of this country. We all want a good leader to lead our nation, not a demagogue or a tyrant. Therefore, let us examine what Modiji has done in his ten years. 1. Modiji sold every government institution to private parties because he thought they could run India better than Modiji’s government. 2. Modiji’s team laid iron nails in the path of poor and aggrieved farmers who came to tell him their problems, such as the lack of MSP and the inability to repay their loans. Modiji and his friends force these poor farmers to repay their loans fully. Until now, Modiji’s team has never forgiven the loans of small traders.    3. Modiji brought Demonetisation reform through which we got new currency notes with in-built chips. The chips help him to locate black money, but we cannot locate the chips even now. 4. Modiji gave Temples and Trains to affluent Hindus. Why? Modiji believes...

Think Policies, Not Politics

In a movie entitled Jawan, produced around the time I wrote about Jai Jawan and Jai Kisan, Shah Rukh Khan portrays himself as an ex-soldier fighting for the commoner’s rights. The movie describes the plight of Indian farmers under the current regime graphically. In the compelling first scene that sets the film’s tone, SRK appears as a terrorist. He kidnaps a minister’s daughter to make him pay the farmers the money to repay their bank loans. Despite the hero’s entry as a terrorist in a country that hates terrorism, the movie amassed colossal wealth and people’s admiration. It gave SRK and his friends many awards.    However, we are still looking for a Jawan in the real world willing to challenge the misrule and oppression of poor farmers by arrogant political leaders and their wealthy cronies. SRK’s suspense-filled, thrilling first scene sets the audience at the edge of their seats. They wonder how an ordinary man –an ex-soldier turned Robin Hood– can save many f...

A Christian Response to Torture by Authorities (Acts 4)

When innocent people are tortured by churches and courts led by wicked men, God arises. There is a time he has ordained to punish the wicked leaders and uphold the victims. It may seem at this point that there is no justice for those who pray with tears and suffer injustice. However, the Bible says, “God knows who is his.” And, he has kept the wicked for his just wrath. The wrath of God is foolishness to those who play God and play with God’s word. But it is power to the innocent soul drenched in tears for God’s justice. There’s a time when the wicked reigns in the world and the church. But God’s just wrath will overthrow them at the right time.   However, in the meantime, the innocent are called to do two things: action and prayer. By action, I mean a non-action called non-retaliation. To those who infer it superficially, it seems passive endurance. Even so, it is more than that. Non-retaliation has the following benefits in a godly person’s life:   It gets you into God’s goo...

The False Dichotomy: Healing and Salvation

Some pastors compare physical healing ministry with their soul-saving ministries. They opine, "Physical healing is temporary; salvation is permanent. Jesus came to save people from their sins, not only heal the sick. The people Jesus healed died eventually. Therefore, healing ministry is shallower than the ministry of salvation." The comparison between Healing and Salvation is scripturally unfounded. There is no dichotomy between these. The Good News is about God's Kingdom among, through, and for us: past, present, and future. Jesus did miracles of physical healing as a glimpse of our eternal life in defectless, resurrection bodies in the age to come. God reverses the effects of Adamic and Israel's exile through the Messianic King Jesus.  The religious Jews of Jesus' time considered sin, slavery, and deformities (Physical and mental) as effects of exile. Therefore, when Jesus healed the blind, cleansed the lepers, and forgave the prostitutes, the sense was of Go...
