Hindi or Tamil: We are second class in India

The world is a funny place. Nobody questions whether they must take IELTS or TOEFL to study in English-speaking countries. People never ask about the need to learn Russian, German, or Japanese if they want to work in these countries. However, in India, every Indian is forced to do everything in Angrezi. How long will this Angrezi hegemony continue? Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Marathi cannot breathe. Soon, these languages may die. Who cares?

 

The first language of England is English. The first language of Russia is Russian. But in India, everything reverses. The first language is English. Hindi and regional languages only have second-class citizenship. Will any PM of India have the courage to make NRI babies who want to study MBBS for cheap in India take a local Indian language test? 

 

See, our forefathers never took an English proficiency test to get admission to the best European colleges. They are degrading and disparaging our school and college system by demanding unnecessary extra qualifications in English. We are a full-time commonwealth country like Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. (We are not stepchildren.) 

 

Australians or Canadians don’t need any black, white, or brown English proficiency test. Why should Indians who studied in English medium and convent schools run by Angrezi Samaj take this test to prove their ability? The PM of the UK is of Indian origin. What is the use to us Indians?

 

Ask Moti Lal Nehru if he took IELTS or TOEFL to prove his English skills. He spoke like us. Even Gandhi spoke with an Indian accent. He made the same pronunciation and grammar mistakes just as we do. Why did they invent this test suddenly? 

 

Those with good degrees in India have sufficient English skills because we learn every subject, excluding languages in English only. English is the medium of communication in many schools. Every entrance test is in English. Professional colleges (Medical, Engineering, and Management) use only English. 

 

We never saw a Psychiatry or Practice of Medicine textbook in Hindi or Tamil. Sorry, we cannot learn Malayalam, Hindi, and Tamil in English. If we could do so, our slave leaders would be more than willing. Nothing is “common” in the commonwealth except that the White and Black Europeans and Tasmanians make fun of brown-skinned Indian and Pakistani people. If they want to do business in India, let them learn Hindi and take the test as we do.

 

Suppose they insist on their English tests to admit us. In that case, we (newbies) must also create Hindi and regional language tests for them. No NRI or business group can function in India effectively without this evidence. If the West exempts us from English tests and only pays attention to our grades, we can include them likewise. Dear West, “Let us treat you like how you treated us.”

Empuraan: A Movie Review from a Hindu-Christian Perspective

Dear Empuraan, We love you. We know you intend to present something positive using negative Biblical characters. Love and justice are human needs. Perhaps it is because God created us in his image: love and justice. Your movie is successful. Your acting is superb, as always. People love your presence and presence of mind.
