Happy International Yoga Day

Yogic breathing exercises offer unique benefits for specific health conditions such as Asthma and Sinusitis. They have been proven to be beneficial for patients with chronic lung and heart diseases. In addition, many other yoga exercises are effective in managing joint pains, sciatica, lower back aches, and abdominal complaints such as flatulence and constipation. I have personally witnessed individuals experiencing relief from these conditions after incorporating yoga into their routines. Furthermore, yoga is a natural and effective way to lose weight and manage stress. Happy International Yoga Day!

From a Christian perspective, when we unite with God through Christ by grace, it can be termed Kristu Yogaha in Hindustani terms. Yoga means union. Jesus said, "I and the Father are One. (John 10:30) On that day, you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you." (John 14:20) Even so, this union is not the same as Advaita where the creation merges with the creator, and loses its identity, purpose, and function like a drop in the ocean.

Instead, in Kristu Yogaha, a human unites with God while retaining their unique identity and purpose. We don't dissolve into God and lose our identity or purpose of existence, nor do we become God Himself (Aham Brahmasmi). God is God. Humans are humans. Even as we unite with God, our functions and position still remain distinct. We can't become God and have the same authority, position, and power as him. But we become God's children, inferior to him in authority and position, yet sharing in his essence and love.

God came down in human form in the person of Jesus. He was born in Bethlehem, lived in Galilee, healed in Capernaum, raised the dead in Bethany, died on a cross in Jerusalem, rose again, and ascended into the Heavenly Jerusalem. He would come again and judge the world. The message of the cross appears foolish to those who are perishing. Yet, to us who are being saved, it is God's power that promises us forgiveness of sins and a promise of bodily resurrection. All the avatars killed sinners, but Jesus died to pay the penalty for people's sins to save repentant sinners from the consequences of their sinful lives.
