Our Regional Languages and Hindi are our Strength

The opposition leader said, "English is Power." I would say, "Yes, English is Power to the English, not Indians." English empowers and cements the colonial past of our country. English is helpful internationally, but our national language cannot be the colonizer's language. The French did not become a powerful country because they spoke advanced English, nor did the Germans or Israelis. Our national language is Hindi. Even Mahatma Gandhi wanted Hindi to be our national language. Some people are propagating that India has no national language. Others are propagating that we have twenty-two national languages. It is utter foolishness.

We need to respect our languages and our culture first. France, Italy, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, Russia, China, and even Spain have a national language that resembles the name of the country. They are developing much better than the former slaves of the British Empire, spread throughout the world. Russia and China did not develop advanced technologies because they included English as their primary language. The National language of every free country is their language, not the language of the colonizer. India's names are Bharat and Hindustan. Therefore, its national language is Hindi.

The first language of England is English. The first language of Russia is Russian. But in the India of Nehruji, everything reverses. The first language is English. Hindi and regional languages only have second-class status. We never saw a Practice of Medicine textbook in Hindi or Tamil. Sorry, we cannot learn Malayalam, Hindi, and Tamil in English. If we could do so, our slave leaders would be more than willing. Nothing is “common” in the commonwealth except that the White and Black Europeans and Tasmanians make fun of brown-skinned people. Only a leader who respects our languages and culture can bring our national and regional languages to the forefront and preserve our civilization.

The National Language of India is Hindi according to the constitution (Article 343). The main clause clearly states that Hindi in the Devanagari script is the official language of the union. In a subclause, English is allowed to be used for fifteen years until people make a shift from regional languages to Hindi. There are 22 other official languages known as scheduled languages. Those languages can be used for official purposes in the states where people speak them as their first language alongside Hindi or English.

No nation has 22 national languages. It is absurd to say we have no national language or all the 22 are our national languages. A National Language is singular, like a national bird (peacock) and a national animal (tiger). English can be our national language if all people think that we need to follow the culture and language of the colonizer, not our own. If you are fond of a Swadesi way of life, Hindi is our national language. It was never debated until recently because if you look at your Hindi textbook (1990s), it states, "Hindi is our national language. हिन्दी हमारी राष्ट्रभाषा है।"

Even so, nobody hates English as some people falsely accuse. The point Amit Shah made was that we would propagate our indigenous languages such that people would be ashamed to talk in English. In cities, many people consider the ability to speak and write in English as something elite. The commoners, who cannot speak or write English fluently, usually feel intimidated by English speaking people and feel inferior. Amit Shah was addressing this issue. He didn't say that we must not use English at all. Only Rahulji misinterpreted him for his caste purposes.
