We call him "Bapu" for a Reason

On Gandhi Jayanti today, let us remember Mahatma Gandhiji and his commitment to Swaraj and Swadeshi. Let's buy Khadi and speak our vernacular languages. Mahatma Gandhi was a pure vegetarian man who spoke Hindi. Gandhiji valued Bharatiya cultural values, such as non-violence and equal rights for all (including animals). Gandhiji was against killing animals (cows) for meat. He opposed alcoholism and drug abuse. M.K. Gandhi fought against caste-based discrimination and wanted all Hindus to have equal access to temples regardless of their caste background. Above all, he advocated for homeopathy.

"Hey Ram," his last words reflect the life he lived as a "Maryada Purushottam." His policy of complete honesty, dependence on God, and emphasis on non-violence lived on even after his death. Anger, hatred, and bullets could not destroy his legacy. Many countries—including the colonizer—eventually recognized his valor and value. Gandhiji's non-violent satyagraha movement inspired the likes of Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr.

Mr. Gandhi was not a billionaire, an actor, or a businessman. Mahatma Gandhi was not a Communist or a Hindu guru. He was a servant. Gandhi served others, cleaned toilets, founded ashrams, and spread awareness about good hygiene and natural cures. The Mahatma lived a frugal life, had a bad marriage, but fought tooth and nail for what he believed to be true. He inspired his friends in politics and business. Gandhiji read Ved Vyasa's Gita, Tolstoy's works like War and Peace, and Matthew's Sermon on the Mount frequently. Jesus inspired him.
